INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO DAKSHINA KANNADA MILK PRODUCERS’ UNION
AND ST. ALOYSIUS HERITAGE MUSEUM, MANGALURU

With this objective, the students undertook an educational industrial visit to Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers’ Union, Mangalore Dairy, Kulshekar, Mangaluru, followed by a visit to the St. Aloysius Heritage Museum, Mangaluru, on Monday, 10 August 2026. The programme proved to be a meaningful combination of practical learning, cultural exposure and recreation.
All the enrolled students assembled at the college as per schedule dressed in the prescribed college uniform and carrying their identity cards. The students were accompanied and guided by Prof. Shivanand M. Bhandarkar, Prof. Venkatesh Shetty, Dr. Diana and Prof. A.P. Kodancha.
Visit to Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers’ Union – Mangalore Dairy
The major academic component of the tour was the visit to the Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers’ Union at Kulshekar, Mangaluru, popularly associated with the Nandini brand. The visit enabled the students to understand how a dairy organization manages its operations from milk procurement to processing, quality control, packaging, storage and distribution.
Students were introduced to various aspects of the dairy industry and gained an understanding of the systematic procedures followed in handling milk and milk products. The visit provided practical exposure to concepts such as production and operations management, quality assurance, hygiene and food-safety practices, supply-chain management, logistics, inventory management and marketing.
One of the most valuable aspects of the visit was understanding the importance of maintaining strict standards of cleanliness and quality in a food-processing organization. Students observed how an industrial dairy requires coordination between different departments and how technology, machinery, trained manpower and standardized processes work together to ensure that products reach consumers safely and efficiently.
Students maintained discipline and professional decorum throughout the industrial interaction, carefully following the safety and hygiene instructions stipulated at the dairy premises. The visit generated considerable interest among the students and provided them with several practical insights that could be related to concepts studied as part of their management programme.
Visit to St. Aloysius Heritage Museum
Following the industrial visit, the group proceeded to the St. Aloysius Heritage Museum, Mangaluru. The museum visit provided a refreshing transition from contemporary industrial practices to the rich historical, educational and cultural heritage of the region.
The exhibits offered the students an opportunity to understand and appreciate the historical development and legacy associated with St. Aloysius institutions. The visit reminded students that education is not confined merely to classrooms, textbooks and industries; an understanding of history, culture, heritage and institutional values is equally important in developing a broader perspective.
The museum experience was both informative and engaging, encouraging students to observe, explore and appreciate the efforts made to preserve valuable historical memories and artefacts for future generations.
A Delightful Lunch at Shiv Sagar, Hejamady
A memorable educational tour is made even more enjoyable by the informal moments shared by students and faculty members. On the return journey, the group stopped at Shiv Sagar Restaurant, Hejamady, where everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch together.
The lunch provided an opportunity for the students to relax after the morning’s educational activities, interact with their friends and faculty members, and share their experiences from the industrial and museum visits.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The industrial visit of 10 August 2026 was much more than a routine academic excursion. It provided students with an opportunity to witness the functioning of an industrial organization, understand practical management processes, learn about quality and safety standards, appreciate regional heritage and interact with one another outside the formal classroom environment.
