Dr. Sudarshan Murthy, Principal Researcher, The Else Institute USA made a cordial visit to the department of Computer Applications, Poornaprajna Institute of Management Udupi on Friday, 30 August 2024. Dr. Murthy is a highly respected teacher, researcher, and technologist, with a career that spans academia, industry, and applied research. He is the founder and Director of the Data Systems & Solutions Lab (DASSL) and the Special Interest Group on C++ (SIGCPP). He currently serves as a Principal Researcher at The Else Institute, where he has made significant contributions to modern software and data engineering.
Dr. Murthy’s academic journey includes tenures at esteemed institutions such as the University of Texas, Dallas, and Western Connecticut State University. He has also been a faculty member at Oregon Health & Science University and Oregon Institute of Technology, where he taught graduate and undergraduate courses in data management and software engineering. His industry experience is equally impressive, having served as the Executive Director of The Else Institute and having held leadership roles at Wipro Technologies and Sunlet Software Systems.
Dr. Murthy later interacted with the students of MCA and enlightened them on the topic of Unit Testing using JUnit. . He introduced JUnit as a critical testing framework for Java, emphasizing its role in automating and simplifying the testing process, which ensures the production of reliable and maintainable code. The talk also touched on how JUnit supports test-driven development, a key practice in agile methodologies.
He also touched upon the transformative role of DevOps in bridging the gap between development and operations teams. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students delved deeper into the practical applications of these technologies, leaving with enhanced knowledge and readiness to apply these concepts in their careers.
Mr. Suraj Shetty Compeered the program while Mr. Raghavendra Shanubhag introduced the resource person. Students and faculty members of Computer Application Department were present during the session.
Dr. Murthy also interacted with Dr. P S Aithal, Director of PIM and discussed about possibilities of collaboration with Poornaprajna Group of Institutions in general and PIM in particular in the domain of Computer Science and allied fields.
During the visit, Dr Murthy also sponsored a scholarship in memory of his mother Late Kaveramma who was a great teacher, to the topper of 1 semester MCA examinations, Ms. Keerthana
