PIM Students visit to Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM

It was indeed a unique opportunity for the students of Poornaprajna Institute of Management. The Marketing and HR Stream students visited Radio Mirchi 98.3 Broadcasting Station on 12 October 2018 as a part of their industrial visit schedule. The Radio Mirchi 98.3 was located at 2nd Floor, ‘Inland Ornate’, Opp. Hotel Ocean Pearl, Navabharath Circle, Mangaluru, Karnataka 575003.  Faculty Members who accompanied students comprised of Mr Shivananda Bhandarkar who coordinated the visit, Mr Shantosh Prabhu, Mr Joe Ashwin Correa and Dr Sureshramana Mayya.
The industrial visit at Radio Mirchi, an FM Broadcasting station, was intended to provide students of Second Year with required exposure to the working environment and practical knowledge. The motive was to learn and supplement the classroom teaching. Frequency Modulation (FM) is the popular modulation technique for broadcasting information within a range of few 100 kilometres. The FM broadcasting, over the years, has become a commercially competitive market in the entertainment segment attracting millions of listeners

RJ Ajay was kind enough to explain in detail all the technical details of the station. It was unique, as none of the students had earlier experience of visiting a radio station.

The students clarified various questions with RJ Ajay. The questions ranged from technical questions like the capacity of transmitter, from where it relayed, direct rely, production at Mangalore, abrupt announcement, the capacity of server, the format of sound files — to marketing and HR questions like the advertisement slot, rate of advertisement, charges for each slot, ginger, the production of ginger, competition, cutting of expenditure, total number of persons working in Mangalore, the opportunities for marketing and HR students.
RJ Ajay who was young, energetic, entrusted, dynamic and resourceful clarified all the doubts of the students. The students invited RJ Ajay to Poornaprajna Institute of Management for forging some joint programme. Mr Shivananda Bhandarkar, senior faculty of the Poornaprajna Institute of Management coordinated the discussion.

Later, Mr Rishith Karkera, Sales Accounts Manager explained in detail about the advertising, the rate structure per second, the problems confronted by radio stations, the falling demand, the general trend for radio stations, the salary structure, the perquisites given by the company, the opportunities for marketing, advertising opportunities. Mr Shivananda Bhandarkar thanked the administrative officials of Radio Mirchi for permitting our students to have exposure to Radio Stations.
The interactive session and demonstration at the Radio Mirchi gave students the required insightful knowledge on Frequency Modulation technique, its marketing strategy, HR Policies and overall management of Radio Mirchi station.
