Extension Activity: Learning of Waste Management Model Organised by PCRD ; A Research Wing of PIM In association with Azim Premji University

Massive Waste Management is one of the prominent problems faced by India.  377 million  urban people generate 62 million tonnes of municipal solid waste per annum.  The main aim of Swatchha Bharath or Clean India campaign is to solve sanitation problem and waste management problem in India.  In this context, the PCRD , the Research wing of PIM organised a demonstration of Waste Management Model  for the MBA students of PIM.  20 students of 2nd year MBA were taken to Manipur Village where Mrs. Rehena explained in depth about Vellore Waste Management Model and its implementation in Manipur village.  The model was called Solid Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) .  Students got a new way of looking at waste as a resource than an item to be nauseated at.  Students joined hands together with the village people in waste collection and learnt the ways of waste disposal.  The whole programme was designed by Dr.Krishna Kothai the Co-ordinator of Research Centre and Mr.Shashank the Project Officer of PIM.
