Inauguration of Librarians’ Day Celebration and Digital Library & Workshop


The Librarians’ Day Celebration was inaugurated at Poornaprajna Institute of Management on 25th August 2025, to commemorate the 133rd Birth Anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India. The Inauguration of the Digital Library was the highlight of the day. Dr. Umesha Naik, chairman & Associate Professor, of Mangalore University, was the Chief Guest. He inaugurated the celebration and the new Digital Library of Poornaprajna Institute of Management. Speaking on the occasion, he recalled the immense contributions of Dr. Ranganathan to the field of Library Science. He also enlightened the audience on modern facilities in academic libraries and stressed how libraries are evolving into collaborative spaces for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He emphasized that improving the ambience and facilities of libraries attracts more students and scholars. He also observed that the “One Nation, One Subscription” model will soon become a reality as it is being worked on at the Government level.
Dr. P. S. Aithal, Director of the Institute, presided over the function. In his presidential address, he emphasized that information is the most important resource for organizations, particularly educational institutions. He noted that libraries are the places where information is organized and made available. With the advancement of technology, information that was once stored physically is now accessible digitally to all users anytime, anywhere. He highlighted that digital libraries are a cost-effective and user-friendly way to meet the growing information needs. Looking ahead, he predicted that futuristic models such as telepathy-based information transfer may one day become reality, where human thoughts can be directly transferred into computer systems.
As part of the programme, a Workshop on the Research Process was conducted, covering Writing Style, Literature Review, and Citation Analysis. This workshop provided students with insights into research methodology, academic writing, and scholarly publishing practices. In addition, a Koha Software installation demonstration was organized to familiarize participants with digital library automation and cataloguing.
A Book Review Competition was also held for the students. Ms. Ashwini of II MBA won the First Prize, while Ms. Samiksha S. Shetty and Mr. Adithya Sagri from II MBA secured the Second Prize. All participants were awarded certificates, and the Best Library User Award was presented to Mr. Adhitya Sagri and Ms. Shivani Poojary of I MBA. The event and competition were coordinated by Mr. Santhosh and Ms. Navya Prabhu of II MBA.
The formal programme began with an invocation by Ms. Sparsha Shetty of I MBA. Ms. Amitha, Librarian of the Institute, welcomed the gathering. Ms. Shreya of I MBA introduced the Chief Guest, while Ms. Manwitha of I MBA announced the prize winners. Ms. Kavya Sheshagiri Tandel, of I MBA, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The Master of Ceremony was Ms. Sparsha Shetty of I MBA. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from MBA & MCA students and faculty members, making the inauguration of the Librarians’ Day Celebration and Digital Library both memorable and inspiring.
