One of the major research works (Ph.D.) pertains to the comparative performance of religious organizations, other non-governmental organizational and governmental organizations under various rural development projects.

This is one of the major studies which focus the importance of religious philanthropy in a country such as India.

• One of the important areas of study at the Ph. D. level has been the NGO sector (the economic impact of rural development projects on small farmers — a comparative study of three organizations including an NGO).

• Has been a long standing member of the International Society for Third Sector Research and has attended the ISTR conferences held at Mexico, Geneva, Dublin and Cape Town apart from the Inaugural Asian Third Sector Conference at Bangkok, and has presented papers on different topics including philanthropy. These conferences were attended with full fellowships on a couple of occasions. Ford Foundation has offered fellowship (Dublin).

Was selected by the UGC to visit various Universities in the Sudan as a research delegate from India. He visited the Universities, Research Stations and gave talks and had discussions.

MEMBER OF ISTR BOARD:   Has served as one of the Directors on the Board of International Societies for Third Sector Research, which is a global organisation of researchers. He represented India and few other countries.

1. As a student, was awarded National Fellowship to continue Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR),Delhi.

1. During his long career, Kothai has worked in the areas such as Rural Banking, Agricultural Extension,Rural Projects, Project Evaluation, Consultancy, Self Help Groups, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Community Development, Research, Training etc.
2. He is recognized as a State Level Trainer in the area of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the State of Karnataka.
3. He has the experience of working with various Government and Non-governmentOrganizations like PRIA, PRATHAM, ARGHYAM, CAPART etc.
4. He has handled various research projects funded by Ford Foundation, UGC, ICSSR, Philips, PRIA,PRATHAM, UNAIDS etc. He has evaluated a large number of Projects of CAPPART(Facilitator cum Evaluator) apart from the ones sponsored by Karl KubelStiftung of Germany, Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Panchayati Raj,Department of Cooperation,( Govt. of Karnataka), CADA, Shimoga, Department of Public Works( Govt. of Karnataka), Department of Watershed, PURA( Govt. of India) and others.
5. He has presented papers at both national and international conferences, seminars and workshops.
6. He has books and papers published on various issues related to development. He was the Nodal Agent for the preparation of the ‘HUMAN DEVELOPMENT REPORT FOR UDUPI DISTRICT ‘which won the ‘FIRST EVER NATIONAL AWARD’ instituted by the UNDP.
7. Krishna Kothai has served on various committees and boards, including the ‘Board of Directors, International Society for Third Sector Research’ as a Director serving South East Asia. Kothai, is a post-graduate in Agriculture and has a Ph. D in Rural Development.
8. He was a Junior Fellow of Indian Council of Agricultural Research during post-graduation.
