Guest lecture on “Programming Fundamentals and the Impact of AI”

A guest lecture on “Programming Fundamentals and the Impact of AI” was organized by TechXplore – the MCA Student Forum at Poornaprajna Institute of Management on 17 June 2025. The resource person for the session was Prof. Dinesh Kavoor, Professor of Practice at PIM, who delivered an engaging talk focusing on structured problem solving, computational thinking, and the evolving role of artificial intelligence in programming. His session began with an overview of the importance of problem solving in both daily life and computing, and then explored manual vs. computer-based problem solving. Prof. Kavoor emphasized the four core steps in structured problem solving: understanding, planning, executing, and reviewing, using relatable examples like planning a birthday party to illustrate decomposition and algorithmic thinking.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students actively participated and clarified their doubts. The lecture not only deepened the students’ understanding of programming fundamentals but also encouraged them to adopt structured and logical thinking strategies crucial for developing effective software solutions in the AI-driven era.

The session was compered by Ms. Poornima Shettigar, a second-semester MCA student. Prof. Venugopala Rao A S, Head of the Department of MCA, formally welcomed the guest and also presented a memento to Prof. Dinesh Kavoor as a token of appreciation at the end of the talk. Faculty coordinator of TechXplore, Prof. Priya K,  and other faculty members and non teaching staff members of the department were present during the session.
