National Librarian’s day was celebrated at Poornaprajna Institute of Management on 12th August 2024, to commemorate the 132ndBirth Anniversary of Dr. S.R.Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India. Inauguration of Digital Library was the highlight of the day. Dr.MallikarjunaAngadi, Librarian,NITK, Surathkal was the chief guest. He inaugurated the Digital Library of Poornaprajna Institute of Management. Speaking on the occasion, he recalled the contributions of Dr. S. R. Rangathan to the field of library science. He also enlightened the audience on the facilities provided by NITK library to students and researchers. He explained how NITK was successful in transforming the library into community space and incubation center where students and faculties can exchange ideas of entrepreneurship and start-ups. He opined that by changing the ambience of the library more students can be attracted. He emphasized that one nation one subscription model will become a reality in days to come as it is being worked out at the government level.
Dr. P.S. Aithal, Director of the Institute presided over the function. In his speech he emphasized that information is an important resource for any organization especially for education institution. Libraries are the place where information is made available. Today with technological advancement information which were stored in libraries are accessible to all users anywhere and everywhere. Digital libraries are the low cost, user friendly model of meeting the information needs of users. Predicting about the future technological developments he highlighted that telepathy model may become the reality in future where information of human minds can be transferred into computer chips.
Book review competition was organized for the students. Ms. Ashwini of II MBA won first prize and Riya of II MBA and AdithyaSagri of I MBA secured 2nd prize. Prizes were distributed to the winners and all the participants received certificates and “Best Library User Award” was given to Mr.AdhityaSagri and Ms.ShivaniPoojary of I MBA.Mr. Santhosh and Ms. NavyaPrabhu of II MBA coordinated the competition.
Mr. Purushotham, Librarian of the Institute welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Sujatha G. L, Library committee coordinator proposed vote of thanks. Ms. Ambikaof First MBAwas the Master of Ceremony. Mr. SharanShettyof I MCA introduced the chief guest, Mr. Abhishek P of IMBA read out the names of the prize winners, Ms. Keerthana of I MBA did the invocation. Students of MBA& MCA and faculty members attended the programme.
