A workshop on Data Analytics was conducted at Poornaprajna Institute of Management for the benefit of students. Mr. Shashiprasad R, Data Analytics Professional of repute and expert in activity-based costing conducted the workshop. Mr. Shashiprasad dwelt in detail about the importance of data analytics to the student community. He tried to ascertain the knowledge level of students by asking questions on data analytics. He explained in detail the various types of data available in and around us, the techno-functional role of data, the imperatives of having a research-minded role to ascertain the changes happening in the industry. The MBA degree may open the first gate, but to enter the second gate, some more efforts are required. Technology coupled with expertise in various functional aspects of business is required to come up in life. He posed the questions like, “I am MBA Graduate, should I get exposure to data?”. “What you want to do after MBA?”
He started his discussion with a story. There was a small village in Kerala, that village has a small railway station. On every morning, the train used to stop there for 15 minutes. The hero of the story is Rama Kaka, who earned a leaving by selling tea and coffee, banana, bred, and he makes around Rs. 500 per day. One day, the train stopped there till 12, Rama Kaka, thought he could invest some amount and prepare dinner, he got Rs. 5000 extra profit, train failed to move at 3 pm. He invested Rs. 10000 for grocery, but train started moving at 4 pm. With discussion, the students felt the importance of data.
