Spoken English & Personality Development Classess : An Extension Activity of CSR Club at Government High School, Indira Nagar, Udupi

              It was a novel experience cherished by MBA students of PIM at Government High School, Indiranagar, Udupi on 17th February 2019 as they engaged spoken English and Personality Development Classes for the 7th to 9th standard students of 3 schools at the premises of Government School Indiranagar. The sessions were conducted from 2pm to 4pm.

                      A team of students comprising of Jackeline Nikitha, Sudhindra Bhat, Annapoorna (2nd year MBA), Abhay Nayak and Harishith (1st MBA) along with Dr.M.R.Hegde, the Former Director of PIM and Dr.Bharathi Karanth, faculty member of the institution were part of this Teaching-Learning experience. Around 60 students of Indiranagar School along with the students of Kukkikatte school and Adarshnagar School were the beneficiaries of the extension programme organized by CSR club of PIM. 
               The programme began with Ms.jackeline Nikitha and Sudhindra Bhat taking up the introductory session.

 

It was followed by PIM students conducting a GAME for the students of schools with the objective of creating financial awareness among the children.  The game involved throwing the paper balls to the bin at different distances and points were allotted for different distances.  If the students missed the target, they had to pay a penalty in the form of loss of points.  Children actively involved in the game.  Finally, they were given an explanation about the importance of savings and investments and how the analytical way of looking at financial matters would solve them from miseries.

Dr. M.R.Hedge the former director of PIM, through his speech, highlighted that ethics are shaped our thought process, character and personality development. 

 He told two short stories to students and thereby caught their attention and response.  He told the story of a lion and mouse and highlighted that every small creature created by God has its own unique value and it is very important.  There is nothing superior or inferior when it comes to God’s creations and all his creations are invaluable.  So it is important that students should not develop inferiority about themselves.  He also cited the story of Kanaka Dasa an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna and stated that God takes care of everything and everyone.  God watches everything and we need to be aware of this fact and conduct ourselves in an ethical way.  
A finance quiz was conducted for the students which involved the display of various currencies and their symbols.  The winners of the competition were given prizes.



 Shwetha and Annapoorna conducted general quiz and emphasized on the importance of enhancing general knowledge for their career development. 

The team also made a presentation about Children’s rights, Child Trafficking, Child abuse prevention and in general about human rights students. The discussion was followed by a question and answer session with effective participation from the students. 

  Abhay and Harshith First-year MBA students assisted their seniors in conducting the programme. They helped in maintaining the discipline among the students.  Photos of this memorable teaching-learning experience were captured by both Abhay and Harshit.  

Dr.Bharathi Karanth engaged a session on ‘Conversation skills’ for the students. 


 The students happily participated in all the events and gave a positive response to the activities conducted.  One of the students also sang a song and mesmerized the audience.  The programme ended with students requesting for continued training by MBA students and expressed the intention to visit PIM.
