Women empowerment is one of the millennium development goals set by the united nations . Formation of SHGs is one of the approaches of the Government to empower Rural women. Co-operative movement has been very effective is showing the way for self-help groups. In this context, the PCRD –The Research Wing of PIM organised an extension programme for the MBA students of PIM . The objective of the programme was to enable the students to learn about the contribution of SHGs and Co-operatives in strengthening Rural India. The students were taken to one of the reputed Co-operatives of the region, i.e. Shankaranarayana Co-operative Society. Students interacted with the SHG members and got valuable insight into the financial management of SHGs. The functioning of the co-operative society brought a spirit of co-operation among the students of PIM. The extension programme was coordinated by Dr.Krishna Kothai, the Co-ordinator of PCRD and Mr.Shashank the Project Officer of PIM. 20 students of PIM were benefitted by this programme.
