World Water Day was celebrated at Poornaprajna Institute of Management on 22 March 2019. Water is an essential building block of life. It is more than just essential to quench thirst or protect health; water is vital for creating jobs and supporting economic, social, and human development. The Sustainable Development Goal of UN aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water for all by 20130.

Dr. A. P Bhat, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, Poornaprajna College spoke on the importance of water, how billions of people are still living without safe water, the lack of planning among our leaders, how to preserve water for our future generation, the importance of uncontaminated water to all our households, schools, workplaces, farms and factories. He explained in detail our imperatives of helping with women, children, refugees, indigenous people, disabled people and others with safe drinking water. In 2010, the UN recognized “the right to safe and clean drinking water and sanitation as a human right that is essential for the full enjoyment of life and all human rights. The human right to water entitles everyone, without discrimination, to sufficient, safe, acceptable, physically accessible and affordable water for personal and domestic use; which includes water for drinking, personal sanitation, washing of clothes, food preparation, and personal and household hygiene. People are left behind without safe water for many different reasons. He also explained the pollution of Ganga and other rivers and our role in preventing pollution and contamination.
Dr. Bharath, Director of Poornaprajna Institute of Management presided over the function. Anusha Saliyan welcomed the guest and Krithika Bangera proposed a vote of thanks. Ashika Neelavar compered the programme. Staff Advisor Mr. Santhosh Prabhu coordinated the entire programme. Dr. Sureshramana Mayya, Dean, Mr. Shivanand Bhandarkar, Mr. Ashwin were present on this occasion.
